Matthew Segall

CEO and Company Director

Matt has a Master of Science in Computation from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge.

As Associate Director at Camitro (UK), ArQule Inc. and then Inpharmatica, he led a team developing predictive ADME models and state-of-the-art intuitive decision-support and visualization tools for drug discovery.

In January 2006, he became responsible for management of Inpharmatica’s ADME business, including experimental ADME services and the StarDrop software platform.

Following acquisition of Inpharmatica, Matt became Senior Director responsible for BioFocus DPI’s ADMET division and in 2009 led a management buyout of the StarDrop business to found Optibrium.

Mario Öeren

Principal Scientist

Mario has a background in computational chemistry, with a PhD in Natural Sciences from Tallinn University of Technology, where he has also held roles as a Lecturer and Research Assistant. Since joining Optibrium in 2017, Mario has led much of the company’s research and development efforts into metabolism prediction, developing new models based on quantum mechanics and machine learning for predictive modelling.

Nathan Brown

Director of Science 

Nathan leads the Research and Application Science teams, driving the development of new methods whilst ensuring customer feedback directly shapes our research and development priorities. 

Before joining Optibrium, Nathan held the role of Director of Digital Chemistry at Healx where he led the development of AI-powered computational methods for rare disease drug discovery. Prior to that, he led the Cheminformatics team at BenevolentAI and founded the In Silico Medicinal Chemistry team at The Institute of Cancer Research, where he delivered significant scientific impact on drugs in active clinical trials. 

Globally recognised as a thought leader in cheminformatics and computational chemistry, Nathan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and a Member of the Editorial Advisory Boards at the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling and ChemMedChem. He invented the first multi-objective de novo molecular design system, published in 2004, and has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and four books in the field. Nathan won the 2017 Corwin Hansch Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field.

Michael Parker

Principal AI Scientist 

Michael obtained his PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Cambridge, researching X-ray emission from accreting black holes. Prior to Optibrium, he held previous postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge, UK, and a research fellowship at the European Space Agency, all focused on the use and development of data science tools to analyse complex noisy datasets. He now leads much of Optibrium’s research in generative chemistry and AI methods.
