Product Manager

Optibrium is an established technology company dedicated to providing elegant software to guide successful drug discovery. Our primary product, StarDrop™, helps scientists in the design and selection of high-quality potential drug molecules. We have recently launched a new platform, Augmented Chemistry™, bringing leading-edge artificial intelligence technologies to supplement the experience of expert scientists. The first product in this platform is Cerella™, which applies deep learning imputation to guide drug discovery projects. Other products are under active development to extend our range of unique software solutions.

We are looking for a Product Manager who is passionate about creating novel software products that engage customers. The successful candidate will have a track record in software product management as we have a great opportunity for you to build on our success in translating cutting-edge scientific research into successful products. As part of our Product Team, you will need to work collaboratively with all areas of our business, as well as our customers, to design, build and deliver software products that fulfil the company’s vision.

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Gaining a deep understanding of the drug discovery market to identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that help our customers to discover new medicines
  • Creating buy-in for the product vision internally, as well as with external partners
  • Developing product positioning strategies
  • Translating product strategies into detailed requirements and designs
  • Scoping and prioritising products and features based on business and customer impact
  • Collaborating with the research and software engineering teams to deliver high-quality software on schedule
  • Driving product launches including working with the marketing and business teams, executives, and other product management team members
  • Evaluating promotional plans to ensure that they are consistent with product strategy and that the message is conveyed effectively
  • Maintaining the product roadmap and acting as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding
  • Representing the company by visiting customers to solicit feedback on our products and services

Director of Engineering Delivery

We are looking for someone with experience in software engineering and the pharmaceutical industry to lead our growing high-performing team of software engineers and testers to deliver our portfolio of software products. The successful applicant will be a member of the technology leadership team with the following responsibilities and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Be the single point of contact for the engineering and testing organization, and support the programme manager, product teams and stakeholders in business development, application support and research to plan, design, develop and maintain compelling products for our customers.
  • Support Optibrium’s in-house and outsourced software engineering and testing resources to ensure that they are allocated to product teams as required to achieve their objectives, or that objectives are adapted as necessary to be consistent with the available resources. Be on the lookout for potential conflicts, threats and factors influencing the availability of resources, and have plans established to tackle them.
  • Lead and mentor the software engineering and testing teams, supported by team leaders responsible for direct line management of junior members.
  • Be accountable for the engineering and testing strategy. Establish the engineering and testing policies and procedures that assist the team in producing high-quality software and support the personal growth and development of the team members.

Objectives

  • Timely delivery of products, according to plans and roadmaps agreed within the programme manager and management team
  • Development of high-quality products delivering an excellent user experience
  • Grow and maintain a high-performing, happy engineering and testing team with low staff turnover
  • Partner with DevOps and IT leadership to ensure a best-in-class, cloud-focused product delivery pipeline

IT Support Administrator

We are looking for an IT Support Administrator who has a clear passion for problem solving and enjoys troubleshooting. If you are the go-to person for family and friends when they have an issue with their computer, and you have a year or more as the first point of call with your colleagues, we would love to chat to you. As Optibrium has grown rapidly in headcount and is also in the process of implementing ISO27001, we need to expand our IT team.

In this role you will be the first point of contact for your colleagues. We look for a naturally helpful and patient manner, and a great communicator. You will play a key role in the team meeting the high level of service we strive to deliver.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing IT hardware and software faults
  • Prepare IT services and hardware (E.g. Laptops) for new starters
  • Maintain IT equipment (e.g. printers)
  • Managing user accounts, access requests, security permissions and groups, software licensing etc.
  • Offering advice and IT support to colleagues in a professional and friendly manner
  • Work with the IT Manager to further build and deliver a first-class IT service to Optibrium
  • Resolving Helpdesk tickets in a timely and helpful manner
  • Focus on developing your skills with support of colleagues
  • Help Optibrium implement ISO27001

Skills & Experience

  • Great customer service skills

Business Development Manager – Europe

The Business Development Manager for Europe (including the UK) will cover the full business development lifecycle, proactively finding and following up on leads, running the sales process and managing accounts post-sale. As part of our commercial team and with support from colleagues in application sciences, research and legal, you will be responsible for growing our customer base, retaining current accounts and meeting revenue targets. You will work with organisations ranging from multi-national companies to early-stage startups, leveraging your background from chemistry, biology or related life sciences, your understanding of computational approaches, and experience from a previous business development role to build new relationships.

The successful candidate might be based in the UK, Germany, or France, with regular travel to the headquarters in Cambridge, UK, along with visits to customer sites and conferences (up to 25%) across Europe.

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Identify and validate new opportunities to expand our customer base and develop new relationships, especially within the vibrant biotech community.
  • Leverage your network and use inside sales, databases, networking events and other resources to identify new leads.
  • Independently plan and perform the sales process, managing multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously. Take a detail-oriented approach to track opportunities in our CRM platform and organise the related documents.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our software products and their value to research organisations within the pharmaceutical and related sectors. Demonstrate the software workflows and the value they bring via in-person or web-meetings with customers. Work with Optibrium’s subject-matter experts where appropriate.
  • Proactively support existing accounts, nurture customer relationships, and generate additional business opportunities for license expansion and cross-selling. Work with our application science team to offer customer training.
  • As part of the commercial team, contribute to developing the commercial strategy and campaigns.
  • Provide timely feedback to our UK-based product development team from customers regarding bugs or potential feature enhancements to guide future product development and communicate progress to customers.
  • Represent Optibrium at trade shows, partnering meetings and other conferences.

Research Scientist – Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics

If you have a track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations we have a great opportunity for you to further grow our success in translating peer-reviewed scientific research into successful products. We are looking for a Research Scientist to work collaboratively within our Research Team to develop and validate methods for SAR analysis and modelling of peptides and other biological macromolecules for drug discovery – translating our success from small molecules.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Deliver prototypes with excellent proof-of-concept
  • Collaborate with our software engineers to develop high-quality products that address our users’ challenges in discovering new medicines
  • Publish high-quality peer-reviewed papers to highlight the rigor and quality of our scientific research
  • Present your work in a clear and engaging way at conferences and in webinars
  • Support our Sales and Marketing team to clearly and accurately convey the science underlying our products
  • Participate in meetings with scientists working for current and potential customers

Ideally you will have the following experience:

  • PhD in bioinformatics, cheminformatics or machine learning applied to these fields
  • A track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations
