Head of Marketing

Fixed term contract (12 months)

We’re looking for an experienced marketer to head up our marketing team. In this role you’ll be responsible for driving forward our strategy and associated projects to generate qualified leads for our products whilst also supporting our customer retention campaigns.

This varied role will see you involved in many aspects of marketing – from branding and communications to events organisation, project and campaign management.

What key skills and experience will you need for this role?

  • Commercial focus. You’ll love digging into funnel and conversion data to track and report on progress against key metrics
  • Proven track record of successful marketing initiatives (inbound and outbound would be a bonus) that impact pipeline growth
  • Excellent project management skills. You’ll be coordinating a number of product updates, roll-outs, leading on multiple marketing campaigns and overseeing substantial updates to our corporate website
  • Good scientific understanding and ability to translate difficult technical concepts and communicate these in a way that makes sense to audiences
  • Strong appreciation for different audience groups and the ability to adapt marketing messaging and tactics to suit them

And it’d be a bonus if you have

  • 5+ years marketing experience (preferably B2B).
  • Previously used Salesforce and/or HubSpot.
  • Experience working in the life sciences or software industry – or relevant degree.

Head of Research

Background

Optibrium develops exceptional software and AI solutions that help scientists advance their discovery projects. Optibrium’s comprehensive in silico platform improves the speed, efficiency, and productivity of the discovery process and supports a worldwide customer base, including leading global pharma, biotech, agrochemical and flavouring companies and not-for-profit and academic groups. 

Founded in 2009, Optibrium is headquartered in Cambridge, UK with a US subsidiary, Optibrium Inc. based in Cambridge MA., USA. Their products include StarDrop™, a comprehensive platform for small molecule design, optimisation and data analysis; Cerella™, an artificial intelligence platform proven to reveal hidden insights within drug discovery data; and BioPharmics, a suite of industry-leading ligand and structure-based drug design software.  

With a track record of peer-reviewed scientific research translated into successful products, and large investments secured in February 2021 and June 2022, we are excited to be recruiting a Head of Research, who will lead our Research team to develop and apply ground-breaking new methods in predictive modelling, artificial intelligence and machine learning for drug discovery. 

Main Priorities of the Role

  • Lead the Research team to develop novel methods, including quantum mechanical (DFT and semi-empirical) and machine learning, to improve the productivity and efficiency of drug discovery, consistent with customer needs and the company’s strategy
  • As a member of the company’s senior management team, help to guide the company’s R&D strategy
  • Work closely with the Development team to ensure the translation of scientific innovation into scientifically rigorous, valuable, and compelling products for our customers
  • Support members of the Research team working with customers on projects to apply our innovative methods to their drug discovery challenges. Ensure that insights gained from these projects inform our internal research and development
  • Retain and recruit excellent members of the Research team and support them to achieve their objectives, consistent with the Research team’s and company’s objectives
  • Work closely with the Commercial team to communicate our scientific innovations in a clear and scientifically accurate way and support our customer’s effective use of our products
  • Represent the company’s scientific innovations and products in a clear and engaging way to the scientific community at conferences and in meetings with current and potential customers

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, cheminformatics, machine learning or a related field
  • A track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • Experience of scientific management in a commercial environment

Business Development Manager - based on the East Coast USA

Optibrium is growing! We are delighted to have recently acquired BioPharmics which had added state-of-the-art 3D molecular modelling technology to our portfolio of products.

Due to this expansion we are looking for a Business Development Manager to focus on sales of the BioPharmics platform for 3D ligand- and structure-based design (https://www.biopharmics.com/solutions/) which offers unique capabilities to molecular modelers, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, structural biologists, and other scientists focused on molecular design.

As a Business Development Manager you will cover the full business development lifecycle, proactively finding and following up on leads, running the sales process and ongoing account management. As part of our commercial team and with support from colleagues in application sciences, research, and legal, you will be responsible for growing our customer base, retaining current accounts, and meeting revenue targets.

This is a great chance for you to work with organisations ranging from multi-national companies to early-stage start-ups, making the most of your background in chemistry, biology or related life sciences, your understanding of computational approaches, and experience from a previous business development role to build new relationships.

Responsibilities and objectives will include:

  • Identifying new opportunities to expand our customer base and developing new relationships, especially within the vibrant biotech community.
  • Planning and performing the sales process, managing multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our software products and their value to research organisations within the pharmaceutical and related sectors.
  • Proactively support existing accounts, nurture customer relationships, and generate additional business opportunities for license expansion and cross-selling.

The successful candidate should be based on the East coast with regular travel to customer sites and conferences (up to 25%) and to our headquarters in Cambridge, UK. US citizenship or work authorisation is required.
