Data security is at the heart of everything we do, using industry–standard tools throughout the entire software development life cycle, and thoroughly testing all products before release. As an ISO27001–certified SaaS vendor, we offer sixlayers of security across our products. I’lldescribe what we do in more detail in this blog.
The age of data
The internet has transformed the way the world does business. As hardware and software have evolved, the possibilities have exploded, and the focus has shifted.
Now, the future is data. We’ve generated more data year-on-year since 2010, and the latest figures estimate that over 400 million terabytes of data are generated every single day. With more and more companies relying on digital workflows to drive throughput, improve efficiencies, and generate insights, data and its security are now a bigger part of the conversation than ever before.
What is data security, and why is it important?
Data security is the practice of protecting digital information from unauthorised access, corruption, loss or theft throughout its lifecycle. That digital information may represent intellectual property, personal details, financial records, scientific research and many other types of data; all critical parts of a successful business.
Comprehensive data security protects our business, our products and our customers.
Software deployment flexibility
To discuss data security around our software products, it’s important to describe how our customers access our software.
In 2021, Optibrium started on a journey to deliver a more flexible software experience to its customers, all while maintaining a consistent, high-quality service. With equivalent desktop and web-based client software options (a flexibility unique in this industry) and Software as a Service (SaaS) options for our computational capabilities, users can choose the best fit for their organisation’s needs.
To be able to offer this flexibility, it is imperative that we ensure all customer data is protected and secured. This means we not only remain credible as an ISO27001-certified SaaS vendor, but we’re also able to deliver software in a repeatable, robust way that helps users reduce their total cost of ownership as we maintain and support products on their behalf.
Our primary commitment is ensuring your data remains exclusively yours.
How does Optibrium protect customer data?
Protection starts with code development and continues through to our live products. We use industry-standard tools to manage vulnerabilities throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). We also use a third party to penetration test all products before they are released, addressing any issues that arise.
From a product SaaS perspective, we offer six layers of security:
Data encryption: We support encryption for data both in transit and at rest, ensuring no human-readable information is transmitted over the internet or stored in our products.
IP whitelisting: We can configure access to our products from specific network addresses only.
User authentication: For some of our-cloud based tools, we can support authentication via either single sign-on (SSO), enabling users to control user accounts and passwords themselves, or hosted user accounts that we manage on behalf of users.
User authorisation: Where access details are user-specific, users can define who has permission to access the applications to which they subscribe.
Application-specific user roles: We provide granular control over user permissions within some products.
Private connectivity options: For AWS users, we offer private linking that connects our services to a user’s network without data transmission over the public internet. We also support virtual private network (VPN) connections that create secure data tunnels directly to a user’s network.
Finally, we’re ISO27001 V2022 certified, the leading international standard for information security management. We’re very proud of this, and it’s a key indicator that security is at the heart of everything we do as a business.
